How to Use the Fiberglass Cloth Calculator
This calculator tells you exactly how much resin and hardener you need to wet out a given area of fiberglass cloth. It accounts for cloth type, resin system, and temperature so you don’t over- or under-mix.
- Choose your measurement system — Select Imperial (ft², °F) or Metric (m², °C).
- Enter dimensions — Input length and width of the area you’re laminating.
- Select resin type — Polyester, Vinylester, or Epoxy. For epoxy, also choose your mix ratio.
- Add material layers — Select cloth weight/type for each layer. Click “+ Add Layer” for multi-layer laminates.
- Enter resin price (optional) — Add a price per unit to get a material cost estimate.
- Read the result — Resin and hardener amounts update automatically.
Tips & Safety
Resin work is a ventilation and timing problem before it is a materials problem.
-
Always work in a well-ventilated area and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, eye protection, and a respirator when working with resins and solvents.
-
Refer to the specific Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for the materials you are using for detailed handling instructions and safety precautions.
-
Mix resin and hardener/catalyst thoroughly according to manufacturer's instructions. Improper mixing can lead to poor curing.
-
Apply resin evenly to saturate the material. Avoid pooling or dry spots.
-
Working time is affected by temperature and batch size. Larger batches and higher temperatures will reduce working time.
